Weight Loss For Women-The Power Of Getting Into Pleasure!

Lose Weight By Dancing

Have you found a correlation in your life between feeling stressed out and gaining weight?

When you’re stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol which slows down your metabolism, causing you to gain weight. And when you are stressed, this same hormone triggers you to reach for fattier, saltier and sweeter foods.

Chocolate is comforting in the first few bites, but emotional eating to comfort stress can lead to adding on extra pounds, which is not comforting and only adds to the stress in your life.

What’s a girl to do? There is one sure-fire remedy for stress, and that’s PLEASURE. And by it’s very definition, it means feeling good.

When you are in PLEASURE, or what I like to call Body Joy, you release neurotransmitters called endorphins― and your body feels light and beautiful, happy and free, and naturally high! Endorphins are those natural body messengers that make you feel SO GOOD after taking a brisk walk, or dancing in the living room, or running down the beach with a dog or child. Endorphins are your body’s natural reward system for taking the actions that are the most healthy and truly comforting for you.

You have to understand that getting into PLEASURE is essential in your ability to lose weight.

You know, in our cultural learning of the best ways to lose weight–we are usually trained that we need to suffer to do it. Things like working out and dieting are very hard to maintain because of the energy of depriving yourself, of not following your body’s natural design of feeling good to lose weight.

One of the best ways to tap into your natural PLEASURE and your natural sensual self, is to DANCE. Dancing and rocking your hips to the beat and shaking your delicious booty, is a sure fire to activate your Pleasure center.

Women’s pleasure center is in their hips–it is where the core of our movement comes from, we feel things in our gut, being tapped into our sensual selves makes us feel overflowing and creative in every area of our lives.

Shaking your hips and booty just feels so good! And tapping into your natural wellspring of creativity, pleasure, sensuality, and power gets you on your way to feeling great in your body and knowing that anything, and everything, is possible.

It’s not about grueling workouts or riding an exercise bike for an hour–which just conditions you to believe in the necessity of struggle, it’s about getting into joy and play and being “in” your body.

Do you what’s the missing ingredient in almost every weight-loss plan?

There is one essential, missing ingredient in almost every weight-loss plan out there. This missing ingredient is not the latest, greatest workout routine. This missing ingredient is not a specific diet.

This missing ingredient has to do with how you feel about yourself, right now, in your body and in your life.

The biggest problem with the idea of “losing weight” in general is that you start doing workouts and diets because you don’t like how your body is right now. You want to look different. You want to feel better.
And if you start from a place of not liking your body and how your body is right now–any actions that you take are not going to give you long-lasting results. If you tell yourself, I can only be happy in the future, when I look and feel a certain way–you are creating an uphill battle with yourself that you just can’t win.

You can lose weight this way, but it’s a struggle and you’ll just gain the weight right back when you want to stop suffering.

But if you love your body and enjoy the workout, you’re much more likely to keep it up. That makes sense, right? And as you love your body, your body naturally will become the body you love.

You can’t get to it any other way, it has to come from loving and appreciating yourself exactly as you are, right now.

Most people are afraid that if they accept and appreciate their body as it is right now, that their body will never change. But the truth is, until you can come to a place of loving and appreciating yourself exactly as you are right now, it’s like having your foot on the gas pedal and the break at the same time. Very painful.

The thing is, you CAN reach all of your health, weight, attractiveness, and beauty goals–and the very first step is learning how to make peace with yourself exactly as you are right now.

And I have found that dancing in the mirror is one of the fastest and funnest ways to make peace with your body exactly as it is right now.

Essentially, you need to feel hot in the body you already have, to have a hot body!

Dancing–and tapping into your natural sensual pleasure, beauty, and grace–is such a delicious way to appreciate all of your goddess curves, just as they are.

When you are able to find things to love and appreciate about your body exactly as it is right now, you create a strong and grounded launching pad for all of your weight-loss, health, beauty, and life goals.

A lot of people want to know the story that goes with these before and after photos. How did I became such a radiant, confident, and beautiful woman? How did I lose weight and how am I so thin, youthful, and fit?

And, of course, how can you have the same success story with your body?

My answer is that DANCE is truly the secret to my success. And let me tell you, I have come a long way, baby!

How did DANCE transform my body?

First off, let me tell you that I have a slender frame–and I gain weight very quickly when I find myself feeling unhappy and frustrated with life. I found myself feeling EXACTLY that way as an over-worked high school English teacher. I loved teaching and all of my students, but the work load and the lack of pleasure and joy in my life was making me put on the pounds, and not only that, I felt exhausted all of the time.

I have learned that my body is a reflection of how in or out of joy I am. And by the end of that year of teaching, I was 20 pounds overweight and completely miserable.

So I quit my job. I started a new business (a non-profit called Mariposa’s Art) teaching exactly what I loved. I started focusing on one of my talents more–playing music. I began studying Latin and Middle Eastern percussion with amazing teachers and performed in a steel drum band, which was awesome. I started dating a fellow musician, a bass player for the local Brazilian band, Sambada. Part of every weekend included waking up early on Sunday morning and playing drums for J’ann Rains’ beginning Samba dance class.

I learned to play the Brazilian bass drum, the surdo, and watched the dance class every week from the sidelines. My boyfriend described the women dancing as “The Dancers” and explained that we were “The Musicians.”

He always said “The Dancers” with such holiness and I started to want more and more to be a part of this elusive group of women who wore sequined bikinis, gorgeous plumages of feathers and danced with such joy and pride in themselves.

One Sunday morning, I just couldn’t take it anymore! I decided to take the dance class as a dancer instead of drumming from the sidelines. A bold move! And a very painful first experience! The class was so challenging. I had never tried moving my body in so many new and different ways. My teacher encouraged me to feel the music in the movement and to relate to the dance as a musician.

I cried and cried after my first class, completely frustrated. And a fierce determination was born. I kept coming back to the dance class every week, crying afterwards every time. It is hard to suck at something!

But the music! The flavor of the rhythm! The glide of the hips! The elusive challenge of the intricate Samba step! I persevered and went to every dance class I could. At Sambada concerts, I glued myself to other seasoned dancers sides, studied their butts, and over the dedication of a year, I learned to Samba!

And then, the next challenge was to master the art of seeing myself in the mirror in dance class.

As a young girl, like many women, I agonized over my body in middle school. I felt much like a giraffe in middle school—with really long legs, a body that was too thin, with a bubble butt, no breasts, and very, very large teeth. I earned some horrible nicknames from people during those years—uugh! It took until college for the rest of my body to catch up to all of those legs and teeth! And when I first came to Samba, all of this self-consciousness and self-dislike was still there. And you have to dance for an hour and a half every night staring at yourself in the mirror. Oh god!

I decided that if I could fall in love with one small part of myself, there dancing and sweating in the mirror, that that would be enough.

I picked my collarbones. One night at dance class, I fell in love with the smooth expanse of my collarbones.

That initial fixation led to loving more of my body. Self-love and self-appreciation only need a small entrance! Next, I started loving my smile, and all of my teeth! How radiating and fantastic! And then my butt! My butt was big and round and could do such amazing things! And my hip bones that curved outward! And my small breasts that looked great in any dance top! And my long legs!

My legs and my knees were probably my greatest challenge. My knees had always turned inward, making me a horrible runner and last picked in gym class for team sports.

I had no idea that my the spiral shape of my body would be such a blessing for the art of Samba. The helix curve of inward knees made for outward hips with a fascinating amount of movement! I found that my body was made for Samba—and something in me was filled, and now just can’t help but pour outwards with such love and grace!

When I found this combination of joyful movement and loving and appreciating my body exactly as it was, profound transformations took place. I lost the weight. My posture completely changed. The natural beauty (that we each possess) that was covered over by years of self-dislike began shining outwards with such brilliance.

And now you can’t get me to be quiet about it. I love sharing the beauty of Samba with so many women around the world and inviting them to DANCE and fall in love with their bodies, one beautiful aspect at a time.

What the Weight-Loss Industry Does Not Want You to Know?

you, like many people, find yourself wanting to lose weight. I totally know the feeling. I know how it feels to have excess belly fat. It makes you feel so uncomfortable. It feels uncomfortable to bend at the waist and uncomfortable to even sit in your body.

And it’s frustrating. You feel like you give up eating certain things, only to want them more. You feel like you go to the gym and motivate to exercise, only to feel tired and slightly bummed afterwards.

There is something I want to share with you that is the key reason why you can’t lose the weight. It doesn’t have to do with what you are eating or how much you are working out.

It has to do with how you are thinking.

Have you heard the phrase, “what you appreciate, appreciates?” It means that the more you are thankful for something, the more things you will have to be thankful for. Kind of like when you praise your husband for taking out the trash, the more he will remember to do it.

The same is true with negative thoughts. The more you think about not wanting to be broke, the more it keeps you in a pattern of just getting by. They say the trick to getting money is having some. That’s a Catch 22 of sorts, but it’s true.

What you think about and focus on, you get more of. This is the Law of Attraction in its barest form.

So, here’s the thing: using the specific words “weight-loss” actually keeps you stuck in a pattern of maintaining, and even gaining, weight.

Anytime you are focusing on “weight”–whether it’s “weight” you have, or “weight” you want to lose—you are asking to keep it around and even adding some more to your collection.

The most powerful thing you can do for yourself if you would like to “lose weight” is to drop those two words from your vocabulary and never say or think them again.

Truly, it is ALL about focusing on what you want to GAIN and not what you want to LOSE.

So what should you focus on GAINING?

Here’s where I created a new word to express what you want to GAIN, and that’s BodyJoy, baby!

BodyJoy is a delicious state of being where your body, mind, and spirit are deeply connected.

Little kids are in BodyJoy very frequently. They practically dance everywhere they go and they take great pleasure in running up a hill, catching a cricket, or eating when they are hungry.

Being in BodyJoy is natural.

As adults, we usually separate our mind, body, and spirit. We read books to grow our minds, we go to church to fortify our spirits, we go to the gym to strengthen our bodies.

When you focus on getting into BodyJoy, you feel fantastic! You feel energized, young, peaceful, loving, passionate, focused, and expansive.

So how do you focus on getting into BodyJoy?

I have found that DANCE is the fastest and most powerful way to get into BodyJoy. It is like plugging yourself directly into an energizing electric outlet. And dancing just feels SO GOOD!

Dance celebrates the art of learning through PLAY, which is essential to cultivating BodyJoy.
